The Big Banger is Back! Regal Upsets Cheers 9-4. Cheers hoped to be playing for a shot at 2nd place Saturday and a first round playoff bye, but the last place Beagles had a bone to pick. Cheers batted first and picked up no runs, then in the bottom of the 1st the Beagles take a bite into the lead. Greg George(2-3) doubled and scored on a single by Ralph Fariello(2-3). Then the big banger Mike Metz, who has been relatively quiet this season, crushes a two run shot. Josh Simon reaches on error and Lou Coppa(3-3) make Cheers pay with a run scoring double to left center. The Dogs are up 4-0. Nick Agnoli doubles for Cheers in the 2nd and Eamon Lougham singles, but they fail to score. Regal also doesn't score in the 2nd. In the 3rd Cheers finds the plate with two outs Mark Armelino reaches on error and Rob Thomas singles. Then Bob Plishka singles to score Mark, Regal leads 4-1. The dogs start yapping again in the bottom of the 3rd when Greg George singles, Mike Metz is walked moving Greg to 2nd, Josh Simon singles to load the bases for Lou "the top dog" Coppa who loves batting in the 6 hole. Lou singles to center scoring two and Regal is up 6-1. Then comes a key inning for Cheers. Nick Agnoli(2-2) leads off the 4th with a single and after a fly out Ken Nemeth singles and Ken O'Brien singles (I think) and Nick is thrown out trying to score. The next batter flys out and Cheers misses an opportunity to score. Beagles are still holding a 6-1 lead. In the bottom of the 4th the dogs get loose for 3 more when Abe Heller leads off with a single, Dave Richmond singles and lead off batter Pat NcNamara singles to load the bases. After an out Ralph Fariello singles, scoring Abe and a throwing error allows Dave Richmond to score. With first base open Cheers must pitch to Mike Metz having walked him already which would score the runner on third. Mike hits a sac fly scoring Pat. The Beagles are up 9-1 and it's getting dark. Cheers manages one run in the 5th when Rich Cobuzio led off with a single, Derrick Margiotta showed up late and singles and after two outs Bob Plishka(2-3) singles to score Derrick. Regal leads 9-2 and doesn't score in the bottom of the 5th. This is it, last innning for Cheers and Nick Agnoli must leave so Eamon Lougham leads off and singles, Ken O'Brien triples to score Eamon. Looks like Ken Nemeth also left and the next batter flys out. Rich Cobuzio knocks in a run with an infield out and the last batter flys out and the Beagles finally have something to bark about with a 9-4 win. Louis Coppa was 3-3 with 3 RBI's and Greg George and Ralph Fariello were both 2-3 for Regal. Bob Plishka, Nick Agnoli, Eamon Lougham and Ken O'Brien all had 2 hits for Cheers.
