Cheers Takes Title With Game 3 Win. After getting blown out in game 2 Cheers is looking for some momentum in game 3 and they get it to start the 1st inning. Rich Cobuzio(4-4) leads off with a single, Dave Plishka singles and Bob Plishka reaches on error scoring Rich. Derrick Margiotta doubles to score another, Rob Thomas singles to center scoring two more. Paul Martin singles and Mark Armelino also singles to score the 5th run. Then more controversy. Eamon Lougham hits a fly to left that John Spielberger fields and guns to third as Cheers is trying to tag up. The throw is a one hopper that is fielded right in front of the base and the runner slides right into the tag but is called safe. So says that same home plate umpire (that use to be John's friend). Cheers manages to plate 2 more runs after an error, Ken O'Brien sac fly and Chris Todesco double. Cheers has the momentium back with a 7-0 lead. The Playaz managage to get Shaun Spielberger on with a single and Cheers elects to Walk Alex Conlin, John Spielberger walks to load the bases but the next batter grounds out and the playaz fail to score. Cheers picks up another in the 2nd when Rich Cobuzio triples and scores on an error. Bob Plishka and Rob Thomas both single but no more runs. Cheers leads 8-0. The hot Steve DeBlasio leads off with a homer for the Playaz but that's all. Cheers leads 8-1. In the top of the third Cheers Mark Armelino leads off with a single, but the inning ends with a double play. The Playaz pick up 3 in the 3rd when Jeff Tarlowe singles and Mark Johnson walks. With one out Shaun Spielberger(3-4) singles and Alex Conklin is intentionally walked again, this time scoring a runner as Alex gets second and forces a run home. Don Trifari singles to score Shaun and with a runner at third John Spielberger lines out to short, Ralph Aiello walks to load the bases but the next batter gounds out to short. Cheers leads 8-4. In the top of the 4th Cheers bottom of the order comes up big again. Ken O'Brien singles, Chris Todesco and Mike Margiotta both single to load the bases. Rich Cobuzio singles to score two, Bob Plishka singles and Derrick Margiotta singles to score two more. Cheers is up 12-4. They add one more in the top of the 5th with two outs Eamon Lougham singles and after an error Ken O'Brien singles to score another run. Cheers is up 13-4. The Playaz pick up on when Cheers elect to pitch to Alex Conklin with two outs and nobody on. Alex crushes on to right center that hits the top of the fence and bounces over for his 5th homer of the day. Cheers leads 12-5. The Playaz pick up another in the 6th when Steve DeBlasio rips his second homer of the game. This one hit the top of the fence in left next to the foul pole and bounced over the fence behind it. Cheers leads 12-6. In the bottom of the 7th with two outs Shaun Spielberger singles and Cheers again elects to walk Alex Conklin with two outs and a 6 run lead. Don Trifari singles to score two but the next batter flys out and Cheers wins game 3 and the Palmer Cup with a 12-8 victory. Congrats to Cheers on a strong finish and to manager Rich Cobuzio who played the last two weeks after separating his shoulder in the Wolford Cup.
