Willie's Wets the Bed in 9 hit Headliner's Upset. Wet Willie's has been piling on the runs in recent weeks but the Headliner's made some amazing defensive plays. So what happened today that they only had 9 hits? Not sure if it was the Headliner's strategy but they walked manager Shawn Spielberger all three times he was up. But let's focus on those Headliner's who put up 11 runs against a good defensive team with only one extra base hit, a double by David Plishka. The Headliner's middle of the order Lou Coppa and Mike Metz combined for 6-8 with 9 RBI's of the teams 11 RBIs. Leadoff batter John Boeckel was on 3 of 4 times with 2 singles and an on by error and David Plishka was on 3 of 4 times with a single, double, sac fly and a walk. Josh Simon and Ken O'Brien were both 2-3. The key plays of the game was one in the 3rd inning where Willie's was trailing 7-1 and Marshall Baines leads off the inning with a triple. The next batter pops up to 2nd and spark plug Shawn Spielberger was walked. Then the next batter hit into a 1-4-3 double play. No runs with Clay and John Cocchio were due up. The next inning Clay leads off with a double. Jon Cocchio gets credit for a single on an obvious throwing error by the short stop (so Willie's really only had 8 hits), but holding Clay at 2nd. So two on and no outs for Willie's. What happend next I have not see in all my years playing at LVC. Firstbaseman Josh Simon fields a grounder at 1st and guns down Clay Petry going to third. WOW what a play! The next two batters fly out and again Willie's doesn't score again. Headliner's hold on and sweep Willie's this season with an 11-1 victory.
