The Patriots Let The Banana Slip Out of Their Hands in Thrilling Final. For the second straight game the Somerset Patriots jumped out to a quick 5 run 1st inning lead. Calvin Kwock singled, John Petrozzino(3-4) singled, Dave Auerbach(3-4) singled to score Calvin. RJ Leonard singled in another. A fielder's choice scored another and then three more singles by Bret Hartman(2-3), Chris Stappas(2-3) and Paul Martino drive home two more. Mike Bedell sacked in the 5th run. Savanna answers back with 2 after Clay Petry(3-3) singled, Kurt Heim singled and John Sanzone(3-4) singled to score both runners. In the 4th the Patriots add one more when Lou Coppa singled and scored on another sac fly by Mike Bedell. The Bananas take a bite out of the lead when John Sansone, Kyle Francis single, Levi Henninger walked and John Mach(2-3) singled in two big runs. After 5 it's the Patriots 6, Bananas 5. Savanna grabs the lead with 3 runs in the 5th after rookie Brandon Snook singled, Clay, Curt and John Sanzone all single. Savanna is up 8-6. Then all the excitement comes. With 2 outs and a runner on 1st, Savanna turns their lineup over and Calvin Kwock singled up the middle. John Petrozzino singled to bring up Dave Auerbach with two outs and the Patriots trailing by 2. They elect to pitch to Dave and Dave blasts a grand slam to put the Patriots up by 2. In the bottom of the 7th the Bananas also have two outs with a runner on first. The ball is hit between 1st and 2nd and the 2nd baseman makes a nice play in the hole. Nobody is covering 1st so he spins and makes a nice throw at second to nip the speedy Kurt Heim but oh no, the ball slips out giving the Bananas life. So it's 1st and 2nd, 2 outs and the Patriots have a 2 run lead. Jason Wertheimer singled up the middle to load the bases. Levi Henninger singled in one but the left fielder guns the ball home and it's high and the tying run scores. Ken Horan singles up the middle and the Bananas get their first win of the season, 11-10.
