Hens Come Up Short Again, Yard Goats Hang On 9-8. The Goats kept their winning streak going and are now over 500 for the first time since May. They got off to a great start in the first inning with 5 runs on singles by Lee Ehudin, Tony Garett(3-4), Dave Schachman(2-3) which loaded the bases for Ryan Goodrich who singled in 2 runs. Christian Hansen singled in another, Ralph Avallone(2-2) singled and Eric Stivers singled in a 5th run but Ralph got thrown out trying to score. It's 5-0 Goats after 1. No scoring till the 4th when the Goats scored 2 on a Steven Stroka double. 7-0 Goats. The Hens jump on the new ball in the bottom of the 4th. Bruce Dostal singled followed by singles from Pat McNamara, Mug, Dave Jensen, James Morris, and Mark Slayton. Jim Morris singled and Aric Bernstein(2-3) singled and then Hens cut the lead to 7-5. Goats get one in the 5th when Dave Schachman(2-3) singled in Tony Garrett. Hens lay one in the 5th and 6th after Aric Bernstein doubled and Nick Adams singled. So it's top of the 7th and the Goats are up 8-7. Eric Stivers singled and an error and Jigar Desai single setup a sac fly from Frank Coppola, which turns out to be a big run. The Hens were deep in their order and Pat McNamara and Mug both single. A fly out advances both runners with one out. The Hens score one on a ground out and the tying run moves to 3rd. Now they are one batter away from turning over the order. Theres a slow chopper down third and the third baseman Jigar Desai charges and throws the runner out at first, nice play by Bob Fass, and looks like Jigar reinjured his hamstring on the throw and falls to the ground. Game over, Goats hang on 9-8.
