Steve DeBlasio and J. Tarlowe are the Playaz of the Game. Subs, errors, clutch hits and controversial calls, highlight this entertaining game between Bada Bing and The Playaz Club. Bada Bing was shorthanded fielding only 6 regular players while the Playaz were batting 12. This was a close, back and forth game that went down to the wire. The last out, a controversial call at first in the bottom of the 7th with the tying run on third for Bada Bing. The Playaz struck first in the top of the first when Eric Rosenberg singled, Shaun Spielberger tripled to score Eric, Alex Conklin singled in Shaun, Don Trifari singled moving Alex to third with no outs, but 3 straight ground outs ended the inning without Alex scoring. Playaz are up 2-0. Neither team scores till the bottom of the third when Jared Kruger singles and Rick Beyer connects for a 2 run homerun, game tied 2-2. The Playaz manage one run in the 4th when Alex Conklin triples and scores on a key 2 out triple by John Spielberger, Playaz lead 3-2. In the bottom of the 5th the Playaz make 3 throwing errors and, with two outs Henry Russnow's infield single got past the first basemen and the throw home went out of play scoring another run, Bada Bing is up 4-3. In the top of the 6th, the Playaz get a key lead off single by Mike Johnson. The next batter hits into a fielder's choice and then came controversy #1. Shaun Spielberger hits a grounder to short and the throw to second is in time but the fielder drops the ball then dives for it and pins the ball against the ground with his bare hand. Eric Rosenberger slides in and both umpires felt that the fielder had possession of the ball, even though the ball was still on the ground. Many of the Playaz didn't agree but it's two out and Alex Conklin is up and he rips one down third that took a bad hop over Rick Beyer's glove. The speedy Shaun Spielberger races to third and Alex moves up on the throw. Playaz have 2nd and 3rd, two outs and Bada Bing chooses to walk Don Trifari to pitch to Steve DeBlasio. With two strikes Steve drills a line drive between short and third and both Shaun and Alex both score. The throw gets by the catcher and bounces off the backstop twards third and as the catcher races to field it Don Trifari sneaks in for the 3rd run. The Playaz lead 6-4. Bada Bing has their three subs up in the bottom of the 6th and they go down 1,2,3. In the top of the 7th the Playaz, Austin Tarlow drills a shot off the first baseman's glove that bounces towards second and the second baseman throws it back to first to nip Austin. With two outs Ralph Aiello doubles down the line and then a big two out single by Jeff Tarlowe scores Ralph while Jeff gets thrown out going to second. Playaz lead by 3 but Bada Bing has their top of the lineup coming up. Jared Kruger hits a looper that somehow falls between the second baseman and right center fielder, Rick Beyer rips a liner to right moving Jared to third. The next batter hits a soft fly ball to right center and it somehow pops out of his glove putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs and the tying run is at second. Ed Russnow hits a sac fly to left, scoring the run but holding the runner at second. The next batter grounds out to short and Alex Conklin makes a great scoop on a bad throw at first, 2 outs and the tying run moves to third. The Playaz elect to walk Hadar to get to the lefty subs and sub Paul Martino hits a grounder to second that Steve DeBlasio moves to the hole to field, it pops out of Steve's glove but he picks it up and fires a low throw to first that Alex Conklin makes a great stretch on and the umpire calls the runner out. It was a very close play but most of the players and fans on the bench side thought the runner was safe, while most of the Playaz in the field, who had a different angle, thought he was out. The only opinion that mattered was the ump and he didn't hesitate to call him out. Game over but lots of post game talking about that one. If you were there watching you got your money (or beers) worth for sure. LVC softball entertainment at it's finest. Steve DeBlasio's two strike, two out, 3 run single with the bases loaded was the hit of the game and Jeff Tarlowe's key run scoring single in the 7th with two outs was a close second. For Bada Bing Rick Beyer's 2 run shot was huge and Henry Russnow's two out, two run single was a close second.
