Olde Towne Walks Off With Game One 18-17. The first game of the 2019 finals was a thriller with Puleo's Brick Oven fighting back in the 7th to tie the game on a Mark Spotto 3 run homer. Olde Towne was up by 8 runs, 14-6 to start the 5th before Puleo's began their usually late inning rally. They pick up 4 in the 5th off 5 straight singles by Joe Giordano, RJ Leonard, Al Puleo, Adam Steckelman and Vince Wolleon. Puleo's makes a pitching change and Cliff Neukrug comes in to change it up and it seems to quiet the Olde Towne bats. Olde Towne picks up just one run in the bottom of the 5th after Ralph Fariello leads off with a triple and scored on a single by Jon Weiner. Olde Towne leads 15-10 after 5. In the 6th Puleo's picks up 4 more big runs after Eric Rosenberg singled, Mark Spotto doubled, Joe Giordano singled, RJ Leonard singled Adam Steckelman doubled and Vince Wolleon sacked in the 4th run to cut the lead to just 1, 15-14. Then in the bottom of the 6th Olde Towne manages to scrape up two big runs after Greg George singled, then with 2 outs Brett Hartman reached on error bringing up Seth Mendelson with two outs and runners on 1st and 2nd and Olde Towne now clinging to just a 1 run lead. Seth Comes through with his biggest hit of the season scoring Greg George from second and Brett Hartman also scores on what appears to be a bad throw. Olde Towne picks up 2 key runs and now leads by 3 going into the bottom of the 7th. Joel Orris gets a big lead off single for Puleo's, Chuck Puleo works another late inning walk, bringing the tying run to the plate with no outs. After a fly out Mark Spotto steps in with the hot Joe Giordano up next and Olde Towne is forced to pitch to Mark. Mark ties the game with a 3 run homer (boy I know what that feels like, lol). Joe Giordano and RJ Leonard both single and this is looking like DejaVu all over again for Puleo's. But the next two batter fly out and Olde Towne can finally exhale knowing they can win it with one run in the bottom of the 7th and the top of their order coming up. Puleo's gets the first batter out, then elects to put the winning run on base and walks Mike Metz, who happened to be the only batter from either team without a hit in the game. Does it pay off? Olde Towne puts one of the fastest runners in the league on first to run for Mike, Jon Weiner. The dangerous Steve DeBlasio reaches on error and now Olde Towne has the winning run at second in the speedy Jon Weiner. Barry Davis comes through with a big single that's fielded by Vince Wolleon in left, here comes the throw, here comes the play at the plate, the throw is a little off, holy cow I think he's going to make it… but RJ Leonard tags Jon to keep Puleo's alive. Only in LVC can something like this happen, (really). Puleo's can get out of this jam with one more out. With 1st and 2nd, two outs, the next batter Josh Simon grounds to short, a force out a second could end the inning, but oh no, the throw to second winds up in right field and Steve DeBlasio comes around to score. Olde Towne takes game one 18-17 with this crazy finish. Both teams play game 2 of the series next Saturday, get your tickets before they sell out. This game was a slug fest from the start with both teams reaching the 24 hit mark. Joe Giordano had the hottest bat on the day, going 5-5 with 4 RBI's and a homer. RJ Leonard was 4-5 and Mark Spotto was 3-4 with 4 RBI's and a homer.
