Olde Towne Outlasts Puleo's in Finals Slugfest 25-20. It was a game for the ages as Olde Towne and Puleo's slugged it out for over 2 hours to see who would be crowned the 2019 Regular Season Champions. There were 32 hits in this game, BY EACH TEAM that is, and 6 home runs, possibly an LVC playoff record. Olde Towne was the visitors and batted first. Ralph Fariello got things started with a single, Mike Metz singled with one out and Steve DeBlasio singled in the games first run, Barry Davis singled in another and the 3rd run scored on a fielder's choice. Olde Towne is up 3-0. Puleo's needed the win to force a game 3 and they start off strong. Eric Rosenberg singled, Mark Spotto(3-4) doubled in the first run, Joe Giordano singled in run #2, RJ Leonard double in another, Al Puleo singled, Adam Steckelman doubled to give Puleo's their first (and only)lead, Vince Wolleon(4-5) singled in the 5th run, Ryan Goodrich scored a run on a fielder's choice so it's 6-3 Puleo's after one. Olde Towne delivers in the 2nd with 7 runs on singles by Chris Stappas and Ira Robbins before Ralph Fariello tripled, Jon Weiner doubled to tie the game at 6-6. Then Mike Metz, like he's been doing all season, completes the cycle with a 2 run homer, giving Olde Towne back the lead 8-6 and their not done. With 2 outs Barry singled, Josh Simon says single and Greg George splits the outfielders with a 2 run double. Olde Towne takes a 10-6 lead. Puleo's picks up two in the bottom to cut the lead to 10-8 but Olde Towne is quick to set the table again in the bottom. The first two batter make outs before Ira Robbins singles, Ralph Fariello walks, Jon Weiner singled to load the bases for Mike Metz with two outs. After Mike's last atbat Puleo's chooses to intentional walk in a run to bring up Steve DeBlasio with the bases loaded and his son Joseph watching from the sidelines. Big Daddy blasts a two out grandslam pushing the Olde Towne lead up to 15-8 and it's only the 3rd inning. Puleo's doesn't score in the bottom and Olde Towne adds another run in the 4th when the productive Ira Robbins drove in Pete DeFrank with a fielder's choice. Puleo's pick up one in the 4th on a solo shot by RJ Leonard. Olde Towne is up 16-9. Olde Towne is back to work in the 5th after Jon Weiner singled, Mike Metz singled and Steve DeBlasio gets his 6th RBI on a single, then Josh Simon picks up an RBI with another single. Olde Towne takes a 18- 9 lead into the bottom of the 5th, looks like it may be over right? Well Puleo's has not been known to give up, especially late in games so you won't be suprized by what happens next. Vince Wolleon singled with one out then after a second out Dave Kaiser singled, Cliff Neukrug (who is now pitching) singled to load the bases for Chuck Puleo who beats the shift with a two strike single to left center. Eric Rosenberg singled to load the bases for Mark Spotto who Olde Towne chooses to intentionally walks and force home a run. Joe Giordano gets a big 2 RBI single and that brings up the dangerous sophomore RJ Leonard. Will they walk RJ with two outs? No, Olde Towne pitches to RJ and RJ blasts a 3 run homer to left to bring Puleo's within one 18-17, Al Puleo singled, Adam Steckelman singled and Vince Wolleon gets his 2nd hit of the inning to tie the game at 18-18. But this Olde Towne team is relentless including their bottom of the order who was 11-20. Pete DeFrank singled and with one out Brett Hartman singled, then came a big play, Ira Robbins hits a funny chopper up the middle that hits off the pitchers glove to load the bases with one out. Ralph Fariello gave Olde Towne back the lead with a two run single, Jon Weiner singled in a 2nd run to put runners at first and second with Mike Metz up. An intentional walk would score a run and Mike is up in the count 2-0. The next pich is right over the middle and Mike plows it over the fence for a 24-18 Olde Towne lead. Puleo's gets two back on a two run homer by Mark Spotto, 24-20 after 6. Olde Town gets one insurance run in the 7th when Greg George singled and scored on a single by Chris Stappas. Can Puelo's rally in the 7th to take this to a 3rd game? Not this time, with two outs Vince Wolleon and Ryan Goodrich singled by that's it. Olde Towne is the 2019 regular season champions and this highly competitive season is finally in the books. End of story! Be sure to check out the twitter news feed for game highlights. Thanks for a great 2019 season.
