In "Game of Inches", Puleo's Brick Oven Comes Back to Nip Michael Angelo's 6-5. This was the first close game of the day and it came down to a few close calls in the end. Eric Rosenberg led the game off with a single for Puleo's Brick Oven and Vince Wolleon reached on error, but the next batter hit into a Citron to Citron double play to end the threat, ouch! Michael Angelo's jumped out of the oven first when manager Mike Citron ripped an RBI double over the left fielder's head, scoring brother Rich who singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning. Dave Plishka singled in Mike, Bob Plishka reached on error, Jason Abfier walked and Eamon Lougham sacked in David for a 3-0 lead. Al Puleo led off the 2nd with a walk, then with one out Ryan Goodrich reached on error. With two outs a throwing error scores two and Puleo's cuts the lead to 3-2. Jon Mach and Cliff Berliner both single to lead off the bottom of the second, then after a double play Rich Citron singles in a run and Michael Angelo's takes a 4-2 lead. Dave Kaiser 1-1 with two walks, walked to lead off the 3rd and Eric Rosenberg singled, but Puleo's doesn't score. Rookie pitcher Al Puleo gets a 1,2,3 inning to end the 3rd with the score still 4-2. Again, Puleo's gets the lead off batter on when Mark Spotto leads off the 4th with a double. then scores on a sac fly by Al Puleo. Puleo's trails now 4-3. In the bottom of the 4th Michael Angelo's batter Eamon Lougham singles but, Ken Nemeth rips a ball back to pitcher Al Puleo who turns a nice double play to end the inning. Puleo's adds another run in the top of the 5th when Adam Steckelman singled and moved to second on a fly out. With two outs Dave Kaiser singled moving Adam to third and Dave Picon hit a cluch two out single up the middle to tie the game 4-4. Michael Angelo's fails to score in the bottom and Puleo's takes their first lead of the game in the 6th. With one out Mark Spotto singled and with two outs manager Al Puleo rips a ball off the right field fence that took a favorable bounce off the fence and allowed Al to turn it into a triple scoring Mark. Puleo's leads 5-4. Michael Angelo's ties it in the 6th when Mike Citron led off with a single, Dave Plishka singled to make it 1st and 2nd no outs. Then Mark Spoto made the play of the game, an unusual play as Bob Plishka rips a ground ball up the middle and Mark dives from short to field it, then rolls on the ground and throws a bouncer back to third and after about 5 hops it somehow just nips Mike Citron coming into third. (see slow mo replay on twitter and photo above). Michael Angelo's still manages to tie the game when Jason Abfier singled to left, then Puleo's third baseman Joe Giordano turns two to end the inning tied 5-5. Two great plays in that inning. In the top of the 7th Ryan Goodrich led off with a single for Puleo's who had their lead off batter on base in 6 of 7 innings today. Adam Steckelman follows with a single of his own, After a force out it's Commissioner Chuck Puleo facing vice Commissioner Jon Mach with the game on the line. Chuck wins this one with a single up the middle to load the bases. Dave Kaiser manages a walk to give Puleo's a one run lead. One of the pitches was really close (see twitter). Can Puleo's hold on in the bottom of the 7th? With two outs Jon Mach singles but that's it, Puleo's Brick Oven gets the 6-5 win. Rookie pitcher Al Puleo is now undefeated at 1-0. Al was pretty impressive on the mound, only walking one batter in some windy weather and turning a nice double play.
