Coppa's 5th Inning Blast Fires Up The Brick's. Brick 46 picks up their 4th straight win by holding off a late inning Columbia espresso of hits. Columbia rushed out to a 5-1 early lead but they had a mid game caffeine crash. The Bricks on the other hand, started slow but fire back with a big 5th inning surge. Jonathan Drillings got things started for Columbia in the 1st with a leadoff single, David Drilling walked, Mike Cobuzio walked to load the bases for Rick Beyer who made them pay with a double shot to left. Gary Drillings sacked in a run and Mark Fedele drove home the 4th run with a single. Columbia is up 4-0. Brick goes down 1,2,3. Columbia fails to take advantage and Brick strikes back for 1 in the 2nd when Ryan Olohan reached by error and scored on a single by Ken O'Brien. Columbia managed one in the 3rd after Gary Drillings doubled and scored on a single by Eamon Loughran. Columbia is up 5-1. Brick fails to score in the 3rd and Columbia also goes down without a run in the 4th. Then the Brick start to warm up as Lou Coppa starts the fire with a leadoff single, Ryan Olohan singled, Ken O'Briend singled to load the bases for Seth Friedman who sacks in one run. Matt Eisenberg singled in another to cut Columbia's lead to 5-3. Columbia still can't find the mojo and Brick turns up the heat after Rick Fardo singled to start the bottom of the 5th. Then with two outs Jay Glickson singled bringing up Lou Coppa with the Columbia Pitcher calling warning track power. Lou makes them eat their words as he launches a 2 out, 3 run homer to left and Brick takes their first lead of the game 6-5. Ryan Olohan says were not done yet and singles followed by singles from David Bornstein, Ken O'Brien, Seth Friedman and Matt Eisenberg which plated 2 more runs. Brick is up 8-6 and Columbia is serving up iced coffee. The hot Bricks put up 4 more runs in the 6th after Rick Fardo start it again with a single, Matt Goodstein drives a double past the short outfield to score Rick, much to the liking of the Brick 46 bench. John Boeckel doubled, Jay Glickson tripled to right scoring two more runs and Lou Coppa drives a deep sac to straight away center. Brick is cruzing 12-5, looks like an easy win but hold on! Kevin "foot in mouth" Zabranski lead the 7th off with a single and with one out Ken Nemeth singled, Jason Dickert lines a single to left to score Kevin, Rich Cobuzio places on to short center for an RBI single and Columbia is showing some life with the top of the order coming up. Jonathan Drillings singled, David Drillings drills a double scoring two more and Mike Cobuzio burn the Brick left fielder with a deep double putting Columbia down by only one. Rick Beyer scorches a liner to right but right to the right fieler as Mike tags to third. With two out the next batter lines one down the third base line that Lou Coppa stabs to end the game. So Lou Coppa finished with a 2-3, 4 RBI night. He started the rally in the 4th, put Brick up in the 5th with a 2 out, 3 run shot, sacked in the eventual winning run in the 6th, and made the diving stab to end it in the top of the 7th, great night!
