Michael Angelo's Drinks From The Cup with 14-10 7th inning Miracle. After a slow start the Michael Angelo's bats wake up in the 5th. The game began slowly with Puleo's Brick Oven leading just 1-0 after 3. The run scored in the 1st inning after Chuck Puleo led off with a single, Mark Spotto(2-3) singled and Chuck scored on a fielder's choice. Puleo's had the first two batters on in the 2nd after RJ Leonard(3-3) singled and Adam Steckelman singled, but they didn't score. In the top of the 4th Michael Angelo's gets their first run, tying the game after Jason Abfier singled and advanced to 3rd on a throwing error. Jason scored on a sac fly by Keith Blicht, score tied 1-1. Puleo's answers with a lead off single by Al Puleo, single by RJ Leonard and sac fly by Adam Steckelman (who was 3-3 with 4 RBI's). With two outs Dave Kaiser gets a clutch single to score RJ and Puleo's is back in the oven with a 3-1 lead. In the top of the 5th Angelo's Rich Citron starts off with a single, Jon Mach(3-4) singles and Ron Liebowitz singled in just the 2nd Angelo's run of the game. The next two batters fly out before Angelo's lead off batter Jeff Axelrad singled to load the bases. Jason Abfier walked to score a run and tie the game at 3-3, Keith Blicht doubled in the courts for two more runs giving Angelo's their first lead of the game. Brian Cass follows that with a double of his own to right and two more runs score. Angelo's is finally cooking with a 7-3 lead. Mark Spotto doubled to start the bottom of the 5th with Puleo's now trailing by 4. With one out Al Puleo also doubled and RJ Leonard singled scoring two. Adam Steckelman doubled in another and Angelo's lead is cut to one, 7-6. Angelo's gets the first two batters on after Rich Citron and Jon Mach both single, but Puleo's turns a big double play before a fly out ends the inning with no runs. Down by one Puleo's Joel Orris leads off with a single to left, Chuck Puleo singles up the middle, Eric Rosenberg singled to load the bases. Another run scores on a walk to Mark Spotto that ties the game at 7-7. With one out Al Puleo sacks in the go ahead run, RJ Leonard is walked with first base open to load the bases with 2 outs for Adam Steckelman. Adam comes through with a big double scoring two more and Puleo's is now up 10-7. They only need 3 outs to take home the Cup and have a 3 run lead. After a quick 1st out Jeff Axelrad wakes up Angelo's with a solo home run. The next batter makes an out so Puleo's is now just one out away, with a 2 run lead and nobody on. Keith Blicht keep Angelo's alive with a double in the courts, the next batter grounds to short but a low throw (I think) gets by the 1st baseman. Angelo's is till alive. Manager Mike Citron comes up with two outs and the game on the line. Mike singles scoring Keith and moving the tying run to 2nd. The next batter grounds to 2nd, this could be it, but the throw over to 2nd base for the final out is dropped and Brian Cass sneaks home, scoring the tying run. So now it's game tied, 2 outs and Jon Mach is up with runners at 1st and 2nd. Jon singles and Mike Citron is trying to score from 2nd, the throw gets away and Mike and Rich Citron both score, Angelo's is up 12-10. Ron Liebowitz hits a big double in the courts to plate another run and Jared Citron singled to give Michael Angelo's an amazing 14-10 lead. Puleo's goes down 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 7th and Michael Angelo's wins the 2019 Wolford Cup in heartbreaking fashion. Jon Mach led Angelo's with 3 hits and Keith Blicht was 2-2 with 3 RBI's in the win. For Puleo's Mark Spotto and Al Puleo were 2-3 and RJ Leonard and Adam Steckelman were both 3-3, Adam had 4 RBI's. After the game Dean Sottile gave manager Mike Citron the Gatorade shower. It was an emotional win for Michael Angelo's were were missing their top two picks Bob and Dave Plishka and had to fight from behind all game. Thanks goes out to all the umps and scorers for an exciting Wolford Cup finals.
