Josh Berliner and Kevin Jr. Spark Big Rooney's Comeback in a Nail Bitter Win 8-7. Bar A had the tying run on 2nd in the top of the 7th with no outs but could not push that run home. So Rooney's becomes the 5th team to secure a playoff birth with this win in their final game of the season. Bar A was missing Jay Glickson but had their top hitter in Tom Baginski(3-4). Rooney's was missing their top hitter in Mark Davis. BarA jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Pete DeFrank(2-3) singled and with one out Jon Weiner singled. Tom Baginski singled in the first run and Ryan Goodrich hit a fielder's choice that scored the next. Rooney's answered with one when Jason Lew singled and Brad Hartung tripled but was left stranded at 3rd. BarA is up 2-1 after 1. They get two more in the 2nd after Dave Richmond reached on error, Alex Lieberman singled scoring Dave and Mike Levine followed with a big single. Things are looking good with one out and the top of the order coming up. Pete DeFrank singled to load the bases, Ralph Fariello hit a sac fly and but the threat ends with a deep fly ball to right center that Dave Reiss snagged. Bar A is up 4-1. Rooney's fails to score in the bottom and neither team scores in the 3rd. In the 4th Rooney's Jason Lew grounded to third and the throw was high and went behind the screen for a dead ball. It was marked a hit in the book and we have seen too many of these clear errors marked as hits this year. The next batter Brad Hartung singled up the middle to score Jason. Adam Steckleman singled and then with one out Kevin Zabransky Sr came through with a big single that Jon Weiner almost made a diving catch on to load the bases. Down by 3 Joel Orris singled to move Rooney's to within one 4-3. Dave Reiss sacked in the tying run so after 4 it's 4-4. BarA goes up one in the 5th after Ralph Fariello singled and scored on a single by Ryan Goodrich. Dave Richman gets on by another obvious error to short that was again marked as a single in the book. No runs scored but it loaded the bases. The next batter flew out and BarA only gets one and leads 5-4. In the bottom of the 5th Josh Berliner leads off with a big singled and Kevin Jr follows with a single of his own. I confirmed these were actual hits from the video, lol. These may have been the biggest hits of the game. Rich Cobuzio ground to first and loses a close foot race to the bag against Tome Baginski (who should have thrown to 2nd). The video review (see photo) shows it was a good call, he just nipped him. So with one out, runners on 2nd and 3rd, Jason Lew singled and both runs scored. Jason takes second on the throw. Brad Hartung(3-3 with 3 RBIs), a sure candidate for rookie of the year, singled to score Jason. Again BarA throws home and Brad takes second. Adam Steckleman lines a single to right and Brad moves to 3rd. Tony Garrett scores Brad on a fielder's choice and Rooney's takes an 8-5 lead. No score in the 6th and on to the 7th where Bar A is down by 3. Jon Weiner leads off with a single, Tom Baginski singled and Ryan Goodrich, who first drew a line for the front of the batters box, bangs a double to right center. Jon scores and BarA has the tying run at 2nd with no outs. Mark Fedele sacs in the 2nd run but the runner holds at second (big play). The next batter grounds out and the tying run moves to 3rd. The last batter flys out to end the game and Rooney's advances to the playoffs with a win, 8-7.
