Rooney's Plays Rickey-in-the-Middle in Big 5-1 Win vs the Irish Pub. In a defensive battle with big playoff implications, Ronney's held Irish Pub to just 7 hits on solid play by Brian Kelly at short, filling in for Brad Hartung, and Kevin Zabransky on the mound. They even pulled off a brilliant rundown on Rick Beyer that involved 7 exchanges and the entire team rotated as if they had practiced for weeks (see twitter). Rooney's got all the runs they needed in the first 3 innings and nobody scored for the next 4. The game was over in just under an hour and so maybe was the Irish Pub's season. Mark Davis got things started early for Rooney's, as he usually does, with a leadoff single. Rich Cobuzio(2-3) was back from the shore again (2 nights in a row) and singled, then with one out Rooney's manager Tony Garrett(2-3) drove in the 1st run with a singled to right. With 2 outs Joel Orris, who was back from his sabbatical, came through with his biggest hit of the year so far, scoring Rich to give Rooney's a 2-0 lead but Tony Garrett was nailed at home. The Irish Pub shuffled their lineup today and had Jonathan Drillings leading off and Chuck up 2nd. They got their only run of the game in the bottom when lead off batter Jonathan Drillings singled, Chuck Puleo singled and Jonathan scored on a Rick Beyer sac fly. In the 2nd Rooney's had Greg George leading off and he singled, then with one out got some key hits from their bottom of the order. Evan Orris singled, Kevin Jr singled to score Greg, Brian Kelly singled and Mark Davis hit a sac fly. Rooney's takes a 4-1 lead. They got their last run in the 3rd when Jason Lew and Tony Garrett singled, Joel Orris(2-3) singled to load the bases, and Greg George walked in a run. Then the Irish Pubs defense kicked in with a big double play to end the inning. Al Puleo made some incredible stops up the middle and Rooney's didn't score for the rest of the game. But Irish Pub was missing some big sticks in Keith Blitch and Frank McNally. Even though they lost this game, they still have a chance if they can beat Willie's on Saturday and they get some help.
