Stone Pony Comes Out Bucking But Gets Branded in the End 29-16. What a crazy game this was with Stone Pony jumping out to a big 11-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Starting with lead off batter Kyle Godau they reeled off 6 straight hits. Rich Heim had a sac fly and then they did it again, 6 staight hits by Mike Bedell, Mike Sabat(3-4), Jason Dickert then back to the top again with Kyle Godau, John Sanzone and Bob Fass picking up their 2nd hit of the inning. Bruce Dostal had a 2 out RBI single and Willies finally ends the inning throwing Bob Fass out trying to score. Willies picks up 4 in the bottom and Stone Pony adds 2 more in the top of the 2nd to make the score 13-4. And it stayed that way for 4 more innings and looked like Stone Pony was going to pull off a much needed upset. But Willie's is know for having big innings and they got it going in the bottom of the 5th. The inning started with a miss hit bunt by Ryan Coletti. Then back to back home runs by Clay and John Cocchio. Pony is up 13-7 and Wet Willie's starts warming up their branding irons (bats). Seth Freidman singled, John Spielberger walked, Pat MacNamara singled to load the bases. Eric Buzzilli singled in the 8th run. Then came the play that changed the inning. The next batter grounds to short and Rich Heim guns home and the runner would have been out but the catcher falls down and his foot comes off the bag. Willie's keeps hitting till they put up 11 runs in the inning. Willie's now leads 15-13 but Stone Pony still has some fight left. With one out Chris Hansen walks and Bruce Dostal(4-4) doubles into the courts. Jared Bruno(3-4) follows that with an ugly double over short that ties the game at 15-15. Willie's outfield was playing in tight and Rich Heim puts the Ponies up again with a double over the left fielder's head. Now it's the bottom of the 6th and Stone Pony has a 16-15 lead. But the bottom of the Willie's lineup, Buzzilli, Baines and Shupak all singled before Willie's goes on a rampage with their entire lineup except Pat MacNamara batting twice. 12 hits, 2 walks and one error later Willie's is up 29-16. It's back to the stable for the Ponies as they drop this one big after leading for most of the game. They can't afford any more losses if they want to stay in the playoff hunt.
