Leqqett's Brings Down The House 12-11, 11-9 to Win the 2021 Palmer Cup Trophy. Joe Giordano led Leqqett's going 5-7 for the series with 2 homers and 10 RBIs. Leqqett's jumped out to an early lead after Barry Davis walked and rookie John Petrozzio(4-4) doubled to the fence in left center. Joe Giordano(3-3) sacked in the first run. Then with two outs rookie Rob Guibert became the 2nd walk of the inning and Jim Halpin wasted no time in his first atbat to drive in two runs with a liner to center. In the bottom of the 1st, trailing 3-0, Parker House shows some muscle. Jason Abfier(3-4), who had a great series doubled down the right field line. Ralph Avallone tripled an with two outs Derek Lynn doubled. Matt Eisenberg, who batted leadoff all year, singled and manager Rob Thomas doubled in two more runs. Parker House answers and takes a 4-3 lead after one. Neither team scored in the 2nd and both scored one in the 3rd. Leqqett's run came off another big double by rookie John Petrozzino and a single by, who I would call the tournament MVP Joe Giordano picking up his 2nd RBI. Again Parker house matched it with a solo shot by rookie Levi Heninger to go up 5-4. Leqqett's Lance Zacker, batting 8th today singled to lead off the 4th. Then came the shot heard round the lake, Lee Kornbluh surprised Parker House with a triple he turned into a double. Tying the game at 5-5. Jeff Tarlowe moved Lee to third with a grounder to 2nd and Jason Davis game Leqqett's a lead with a sac fly and they are not done yet. Barry Davis singled and John Petrozzino singled to bring up the hot Joe Giordano. Joe singled driving in 2 more. Rob Guibert moved Joey to 3rd with a ball off the fence in right and Jim Halpin scored another with a single up the middle. Rob Guibert tried to score and Ralph Avallone gunned him down at home. Leqqett's puts up 5 big runs and takes a 9-5 lead into the 5th as Parker House failed to score. Leqqett's added another in the 5th on a lead off error, single by Lance Zacker and sac fly by, you guessed it, Lee Kornbluh, his 2nd RBI. Parker house gets some runs back in the bottom of the 5th when Jason Abfier doubled, and after an error Dave Schachman hit an infield single. A fielder's choice scores a run and with two outs Derek Lynn hits a big 2 run single. Parker House cuts the lead to just 2, 10-8. Just when you thought the momentum was changing John Petrozzino hits a cheap infield single and Joe Giordano cashes in with a 2 run blast. That's Joe's 6th RBI of the game, expanding Leqqett's lead to 12-8. But it ain't over yet, hold on to your hats. In the bottom of the 7th Rich Kirkpatrick hits a key one out single. Jason Abfier singled and Ralph Avallon worked a walk to load the bases. Dave Schachman singled in two runs to bring up Levi Heninger with the winning run at the plate. Leqqett's elects to walk Levi which brings up more power with rookie Derek Lynn and the bases loaded. Lee was pitching carefully to Derek and he walked him, scoring another run. So Parker House is down by just one and they have the bases loaded and only one out. Looks for sure like they will take this first game, right? That would guarantee a title or a game 3 on Sunday night when Parker House would get their XFactor Len Tarnoff, his son and Mr Hamberger back. You know Jon Mach must have been thinking, this is finally the one, but the next batter hit a one hopper near second which would normally be a single, but the crafty rookie Rob Guibert was cheating up the middle. He snagged it and took his time turning a game ending, series turning, double play. What a finish, Leqqett's 12, Parker House 11. They take game 2 on another homer by Joe Giordano and celebration begins with champagne, hard alcohol and all kinds of tobacco products. The rookies were the difference this entire season. Leqqett's had 6 rookies and Parker house drafted rookies with their 2nd and 3rd picks. So if you are managing next year, better come to all the tryouts.
