The Team With The Most Davis' Wins. In the first game of the Richard Palmer regular season playoffs, Leqqett's had both Davis' but poor Rooney's had none. It was Leqqett's Jason Davis who came up big in this game with a leadoff single in the 1st and a game busting, two out triple in the 3rd. Leqqett's pitcher Lee Kornbluh held the Mark Davisless and Tony Garretless Rooney's scoreless for 5 straight innings while their offense built up an 11-0 lead. With 2 outs in the 1st, manager Jim Halpin comes up with a big 2 out, 2 run double to start the scoring, Jeff Tarlowe singled and scored in the 2nd on a fielder's choice off the bat of Lee Kornbluh. Rooney's just couldn't string together any hits without the hot bat of their leading hitter Mark Davis. In the 3rd Leqqett's other Davis, Barry, started the inning with a single. Joe Giordano singled and Rob Guibert singled to score Barry. Then with 2 outs Leqqett's does all the damage. Lance Zacker comes up with his biggest hit of the year. A 2 run single right down the line. Jeff Tarlowe squeezed a single up the middle, just off two gloves. Temple Houston(2-2) walked to load the bases for Lee Kornbluh. Lee hit a ball between short and third that Brad Hartung(3-4) made a diving stop, but couldn't get the runner at 2nd. So Leqqett's is up 7-0 with 2 outs and the bases loaded for lead off batter Jason Davis. Jason rips a liner to left that the outfielder trapped it was too dark to see what happened from the video. But the runners were racing around the bases, Jason ends up with a triple and scored when the throw home went out of play. Rooney's managed to score some runs in the 6th and 7th innings but they end their season with a 11-4 loss. Sadly this may have been Rich Cobuzio's last LVC game unless someone starts a shuttle service to the Jersey Shore. If so Rich will be sadly missed, as he was one of the most dedicated teammates anyone could ever have. This entire season he drove back from the shore for every game, and never let his team down. Rich has won many championships and many league MVP awards. A few seasons ago, playing with a separated shoulder, Rich lead his Cheers team to the championship in the first, and probably the last, LVC finals triple header. Playing with basically one arm and a lot of pain, Rich out hit everyone on the field that day and took home another MVP trophy to add to his collection. Hopefully Rich makes one more trip back for the awards dinner, it won't be the same here without him. Leqqett's moves on to play Wet Willies Sunday night at 3:30.
