La Cosa Nostra Ices Johnny Cakes's Triple Decker 9-8. For the 3rd straight game Johnny Cakes saw their lead collapse in the late innings. This time it was Shawn Spielberger's 6th inning triple that took the final bit out of the Cakes tonight. Johnny Cakes built an 8 run lead, putting up 2 in the first off singles by Ryan Goodrich(2-3), John Weiner(2-2), Jigar Desal and rookie Matt Siekierka, who was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's for JC. Clay Petry launched a 3 run bomb in the 2nd and Johnny added 2 more in the 4th when Ryan Goodrich and John Weiner both walked and scored on a double by the hot Matt Siekierka. Johnny Cakes baked up a 8-0 lead with the 1st ball and it looks like they got this one in the oven. But La Cosa Nostra whipped up a comeback in the bottom of the 4th when Dave Schachman lead off with a single. Bob Vogt singled and with one out Jon Drillings singled in the first LCN run. Ron Liebowitz came though with a big single to score another and Steve Horowitz singled to make it 8-3. Jake Spielberger's fielder's choice scored one more and rookie Shanth Subbiah proved he is more than just a volleyball sensation, with the first of his two big singles in the game. LCN slices away at the Cakes lead and only trails by 3, 8-5. The Cakes go flat in the 5th and LCN takes another bite in the bottom when Jason Abfier(3-4) singled, Chris Mazur singled and Bob Vogt sacked in a run bringing the score to 8-6. Adam Handler singled to start the 6th for JC and with two outs Clay Petry singled and John Weiner walked to load the bases for the hot Matt Siekierka. But LCN dodges a bullet when Dave Schachman finally gets Matt out on a deep fly to left. Jon Drillings batting 7th for LCN leads off with a triple in the bottom of the 6th. Then LCN bottom of the order does it again. With two outs Jake Spielberger singled and Shanth Subbiah gets his second single to load the bases for leadoff batter Shawn Spielberger. With two outs, Shawn slices one down the 1st baseline with a crazy spin and the ball rolls back to the corner of the tennis courts, allowing LCN to grab the lead, 9-8. They hold on in the top of the 7th and it's another disappointing loss for Johnny Cakes as they complete the triple decker.
