The Amazing Metz' Help The Gambinos Cool Off the Hot Corleones 6-4. Corleone needed this win to keep the pressure on La Cosa and Goodfellas for the #2 seed. Tonight they finally had 10 players and it was the Gambinos who had only seven plus two subs. Their two subs tonight were Malachi and Max Metz and both had two hits. Malachi led the Gambinos with a triple, single, RBI and 2 runs scored and Max led the Gambinos with two hits and 2 RBIS. Corleone took a 1 run lead in the 1st when Ken O'Brien singled in a run. The Gambino's tied it in the 3rd after Malachi Metz led off with an opposite field triple batting lefty. Bro Max singled to put the Gambino's on the board and tie the game at 1-1. With the score tied in the 6th and one out, Dave Plishka got on by error when the first baseman dropped the ball. Brad Bennis singled and Ken O'Brien singled to score two more. Ken has all 3 Corleone RBIs so far. Chris Capobianco hit a sac fly and Corleone takes a 4-1 lead. Not looking good for the Gambinos as they have been flat all night. Dave Auerbach leads off with an single past third and falls coming out of the box but beats the outfield throw to first. Then came the bloopers by Tom Clougher and Marty Eagan and Dave comes around to score. Brian Quinn drills a single up the middle to put the Gambinos down by only 1. With one out Malachi Metz beats the shift and pushes a single in the gaping hole at short to tie the score. Max Metz follows his brother and hits the exact same shot in the same hole to give the Gambino's their first lead of the night. Mike Cafaro singled in another run and the Gambino's go up 6-4. Unfortunately for Corleone they have their bottom of the order coming up. Hadar leads off with a single but the next two batters fly out. That brings up Steve Bollander with two out and league leading hitters Dave Plishka and Mark Spotto on deck. Steve rips a liner to short left center but Marty Eagan comes diving in to catch the ball right off the top of the grass for the final out. So Corleone will have to settle for a possible 3rd or 4th seed as they finish with a 9-7 record. It's possible for La Kosher Nostra to catch them if they win their last 3 games. It looks like Dave Plisha and Mark Spotto are now tied for the most hits. We will see if anyone can catch them.
