The Schach is Back in the Dead of Winter and Chris hits his first Mazur-Outie. La Cosa Nostra rolls all over the Winter Hill Gang, 10-0. La Cosa Nostra was happy to get their starting pitcher back after two straight losses. Dave Schachman pitches a shutout to kill Winter Hill's playoff hopes. This game started slow with Alec Vigil making a diving stop at short and somehow throwing the ball to 2nd on his back. It was such a good play that the runner slowed down to watch it before getting thrown out. La Cosa got the scoring going in the top of the 2nd when Chris Mazur(3-4) singled and the finally hot Ralph Avallone(4-4) also laced a single. With one out Bob Vogt chopped a single to left to score Chris. Jack Spielberger(2-3) singled in Ralph and LCN is up 2-0. The next 2.5 innings were a snoozer with each team getting just 2 hit. Things picked up in the 5th when Ron Liebowitz singled past the first baseman. With one out Shawn Spielberger singled up the middle. Then Jon Drillings hit a ball up the middle that hit Dave Richmond's glove, and just got by the Winter Hill 2nd baseman who tried to stop the ball with his foot. Somehow Jon ended up on second with a double and an RBI. Shanth Subbiah hit a sac fly and La Cosa is up 4-0. Winter Hill goes down 1,2,3 and LCN pads their lead when Chris Mazur started another rally with a laser single to left. There was some chatter on the sidelines that this guy is the next Alex Conklin, he just doesn't know it yet. Ok, I said it. Ralph Avallone followed with another single and Jason Abfier hit a sac fly to score Chris. With 2 outs Jake Spielberger gets his second hit, an RBI single. La Cosa is up 6-0. Winter Hill finally gets a break when Josh Berliner smashed a triple. But with one out Dave Richmond fly's out to center and Josh left just a bit too early and was called out. So it's on to the 7th and LCN puts this thing away with an exclamation point. Gary Drillings doubled to right, Jon Drillings walked. Then an error that really came back to hurt Winter Hill. Dave Schachman hits a fielder's choice that could have been the 3rd out, but instead allows the 7th run to score. Then comes the big blow. With runners on 1st and 3rd Chris Mazur finally realizes he is a stud, and blasts a high and deep homer to left. Talk about the dead of winter, winter hill was feeling numb after that blast. Mark Armelino gets a singled by the diving Jason Abfier but the next 3 batters go down and this one is over. La Cosa Nostra picks up win number 9. If they beat the Rats Friday night they will take the 2 seed and get the playoff bye. Not sure what happened to LCN's manager? Dean was at the field but not in tonight's lineup.
