Irish Eyes Are Smiling After 13-1 Win. The Irishman pick up another big win, this time with some stellar defense by SS Ralph Aiello, 3B Jim Morris and RF James Morris that left 8 Dangerous runners stranded, allowing only 1 run to cross. This was a perfect example of how defense wins games. Rookie Calvin Kwock stepped up to lead off for the Irish and had a big night, with 3 hits 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs while filling in for the missing Ralph Fariello. After a scoreless 1st Irish boss Jim Morris got things started with the single, followed by hot swinging Alex Lieberman who singled to right. The gimpy John DeLuca drove home the games first run with a single and Dave Kaiser(2-3) singled to load the bases for Calvin Kwock. Calvin singled to score two more and with two outs Aric Bernstein(3-3) singled to put the Irish up 5-1. Don Trifari singled and Ralph Aiello drove in the final run of the innning, the Irish are up 6-0. Johnny Dangerously got a great start to the 3rd, when Kevin Zabransky drilled a triple down the line that he turned into a double. The next 3 batter make outs and Kevin gets stranded at second. The Irish put up 5 more in the 4th with the new ball. Calvin singled, Ryan Smith popped one deep in the courts, Aric Bernstein walked and Don Trifari sacked in the first run. Ralph Aiello singled home another, James Morris sacked in a run, Jim Morris singled and then the hit of the game by Alex Lieberman, a triple to right scoring 2 more. JD started the 5th with another double. A nice stroke by rookie Brian Guatta(2-3) into the courts (keep your eye on this rookie). Temple Houston singled and Brian Guatta pulled his quad going to 3rd. Mr reliable Kevin Zabransky singled to give JD their first run. But a fantastic grab by James Morris robbed Adam Steckelman of a sure double. The Irishman added two more in the 6th when Ryan Smith tried to stretch his singled into a double. A great throw by Seth Friedman nailed him at 2nd. But the Irish extend their lead to 13-1 and in the top of the 7th, Ralph Aiello completed his solid night at short with a 6-3 double play. The Irish D had the green light tonight and there were some great throws from the outfield too. Special thanks to Mike Levine and Al Puleo for umping and Dave Auerbach for keeping score.
