Live Lucky! With a Little Luck, The Irishman Escape A Late Corleone Rally. Corleone fought back from a 9-1 hole to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th. Here's what happened. The Irishman manager Jim Morris played the hot poker hand, slotting rookie Calvin Kwock as leadoff for the missing Ralph Fariello. Calvin didn't disappoint, going 3-4 on the day with a deep leadoff double. The speedy Ryan Smith followed with an infield single bringing up Aric, a pitchers worse nightmare, Bernstein. Ricky scorched a liner up the middle and Calvin scored from 2nd. Don Trifari(2-3) sacked in a 2nd run and the late arriving Ralph Aiello(2-3) laced up his spikes, picked up the bat and singled to left/. James Morris follows with a run scoring single between short and 3rd. Corleone ends the damage with their first of 2 double plays. The Irish is up 3-0. Dave Plishka got things started in the bottom of the 1st with a single to left center. Moved to 2nd on an error and with one out scored from 2nd on a sac fly by Tom Baginski. A feat only Rich Cobuzio was known to pull off in his prime. After one Irish leads 3-1. The hot Alex Lieberman started the 2nd with a single. John DeLuca followed with a single and with one out Calvin Kwock comes through again with an RBI single. Ryan Smith banged a triple off the fence that took a very Irish bounce and scored two runs. Then Aric Bernstein legged out a Texas league double, great hustle! Don Trifari singled to left and Ralph Aiello sacked in the 5th run of the inning. Corleone struggled for the next 3 innings and the Irish pick up run number 9 in the 4th when guess who, Calvin Kwock led off with another double and scored with Rick Bernstein drilled another ball up the middle. But the Irish fail to but up more runs and leave the door open for Corleone who was ready for some payback. In the top of the 5th Corleone ends the inning their 2nd double play and brings that energy to the plate. Tom Baginski led off with a double, Keith Blicht(2-3) singled, Hadar singled in a run. Chris Capobianco(2-3) singled, Josh Simon(2-3) singled in two runs and Mike Lawlor(2-3) singled to make the score 9-5. So just like that, Corleone is back in it. The Irish go down 1-2-3 for a second straight inning and Corleone brings up the meat of the lineup, down 4 in the 6th. Ken O'Brien hits what looks like a big leadoff single, but out of no where Aric Bernstein dives in to make the grab of the night (see twitter). The Irish get through the meat of the Corleone order with no runs and it looks like this one may be over. Not! In the top of the 7th the Irish squeeze in one run when Aric Bernstein scored on a swinging bunt single by James Morris. So Corleone has the bottom of the order coming up and they come through, setting the table for the top of the order. Chris Capobianco, Josh Simon, Mike Lawlor and Frank Chioccariello all singled and with one out, on a great play by Ryan Smith, that brings up the top of the order. But the luck of the Irish comes through and the next two batter's fly out leaving Mark Spotto and Tom Baginski in the hole. Game Facts: How big were those leadoff hits tonight? Well the Irish had the leadoff batter on 5 of 7 times and leading to 4 runs and Corleone's had the leading lady on 3 times and they all scored. Kudos to Brian Cass and Jessie Ferro for umping.
