He's a Jolly Goodfella! Jon Mach's Goodfellas Take Out La Cosa Nostra 7-5. There were 11 jolly Goodfellas tonight as Goodfellas was up 7-0 in the 7th. But things got interesting in that last inning. This game started off slow with each team getting only one hit in the first 2 innings. Goodfellas Rookie Neil Ascione woke everyone up with a one out laser to left field. Then with 2 outs Jon Mach gets a huge single up the middle bringing up the top of the order. Aiden Mach singled to load the bases for the hot Jason Lew. Jason hit a blooper to left and Goodfellas plated the games first two runs. A bad baserunning mistake ended the inning with the last out at third and the dangerous Brad Hartung(2-3) on deck. La Cosa doesn't score in the bottom and Goodfellas takes advantage as Brad Hartung led off the with a single. Jon Cocchio(2-3) lined a shot to left that Jason Abfier dove for but couldn't catch. That setup Derek Lynn(2-3) with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. Derek lined a shot in the left center gap for a double and both runs scored. Chuck Puleo singled and with two outs we get the season's first interference 2b play call. Jon Drillings made a nice play in the hole, gets the runner going to 2nd but the runner went in standing up and the 2nd baseman could not make the throw without moving off the bag. After watching several near collisions the past few games umpire Mark Spotto made the call and it ended the inning with Goodfellas losing a potential run. Although there was no contact, the runner did interfer with the 2nd basemans throw and the runner was just safe at first. So it was a good call and there was no complaining from Goodfellas. In the 5th La Cosa finally turned their lineup around It looked like they might get on the board after Ralph Avallone hit a one out single and their 4th batter is up. But the shortstops for both teams tonight were on fire and Jon Cocchio snagged a ball going up the middle and turned it into an easy double play. Now we go to the 7th with Goodfellas holding on to a 4-0 lead. Jon Cocchio leads off and takes a cut on a high 2 strike pitch. The ball hit the trees about 30 feet up for a solo homer. Derek Lynn follow Jon and crushes a ball even farther. Goodfellas is up 6-0 and with one out Jake Tarnoff gets an infield single. Then comes La Cosa's first error on the night. The throw to 2nd is high and the ball goes into right field. With runners on 2nd and 3rd Neil Ascione(1-2) hits a sac fly. So now Goodfellas is up 7-0 and La Cosa only has 4 hits so far in the game. So this should be a quick inning right? Just like Sunday night La Cosa wakes up in the 7th after Jake Spielberger led off with a single. Gary Drilling singled and Ron Liebowitz rips a nice single to right and Jake comes around to score to end the shutout. Then with one out and the top of the order coming up, Shawn Spielberger ripped a double right on the right field line for another run. Jason Abfier hits a chopper by third, a 4th run scored and the throw coming home goes out of play so another run scored and Jason goes to 3rd. Now La Cosa is down 7-4. The next batter hits a comebacker to Jon Mac who makes a nice play and this time makes a good throw to first for a big 2nd out. Jason scored on the play so La Cosa is only down by 2 but they have 2 outs. The next batter flys out to end the game. With the win Goodfellas moves up to a 2 way tie for 2nd place with La Cosa.
