The Twilight Zone, A regular season game in September? The Winter Hill Gang and the Gambino Family finally played their last official game of the season and a lot of weird stuff was going on. There were new guys pitching, beer cans on 1st base and even a phantom baserunner after a homerun. The boxscore doesn't show it but there were several different pitchers on each team, even John Petrozzino came in to try pitching in the 6th inning with Winter Hill up 12-5. The Gambinos jumped all over the rookie pitcher for 7 runs. Dave Auerbach hit his first homerun of the game off John to take the league HR lead over John Cocchio. Rob Guilbert tripled in 2 runs and the Gambino's come back to tie the game at 12-12. Alec Vigil(4-5), who had a great rookie season, singled for Winter Hill in the bottom of the 6th, Mark Armelino singled and Rick DelGizzi gave Winter Hill the lead again with a 2 run single. The Gambino's are down by 2 in the top of the 7th and Winter Hill makes their 4th pitching change, bringing back Dave Richmond. Bret Hartman reached on a throwing error and with one out and a two run lead, Dave elects to pitch to Dave Auerbach. Dave hit his second homer to tie the score at 14-14 and also tie Max Metz for the league RBI title. The hit also gave Dave his 2nd batting title. Tom Clougher singled and Brian Quinn singled up the middle and Tom tries to score from 1st. The throw goes over the catcher's head and the Gambino's take the lead back 15-14. With one out in the bottom of the 7th RJ Leonard is up needing just a single for the cycle. RJ Leonard homered for the 2nd time in the game to tie the score. JR ended with 2 homers, a triple and double. The hot rookie Alec Vigil singled and the throw from the outfield got by the 2nd baseman and went out of play. This has been the story of the Gambino's season. With the winning run at third and the infield playing in, Dave Richmond hit one of the most memorable walk off singles ever. Just a little blooper behind 1st that landed right at the edge of the infield for a walk off single. Dave continued all the way around the bases and it was even scored a homer by the rookie scorekeeper, but was corrected.
