The Irishman Survive the Winter One Run-derland 8-11. The Irishman were playing with only 9 including super sub Malachi Metz. Winter Hill was taking advantage of the missing outfielder and were hitting gaps all night, but the Irish outfielders did a great job of preventing extra base hits, limiting Winter Hill to one base at a time. Although Winter Hill got the first two batters on base almost every inning, the Irish bend but don't break defense was limiting them to just one run per inning. For 5 straight innings it was a Winter Hill 1 run-derland. The Irish on the other hand were all or nothing. They picked up 3 in the first after Alex Lieberman singled, Ryan Smith(3-3) singled and Don Trifari(4-4) singled in the first run. Steve Deblasio singled in another and on a crazy play Calvin Kwock picks up a sac fly when Mark Armelino fell down backwards at the fence and Don Trifari raced home from second. Winter Hill answered back with one run after John Petrozzio walked, Mark Fedele(3-4) doubled and a run scored on Dave Richmond's fielders choice. Irish are up 3-1. Winter Hill gets 1 in the 3rd off Mark Davis's(3-4) triple and sac fly by Rick DelGizzi(2-3). They get 1 to tie it in the 4th after an error then a double by Alec Vigil(3-4). With the game tied 3-3 Irishman John Deluca had an infield single infront of the pitcher. Boy those little hits can hurt you. With one out Malachi singled and Alex Lieberman doubled home a run to right field. Ryan Smith was intentionally walked to load the bases for Don Trifari who singled in two more runs. The Irish are up 6-3 after 4. Like clockwork, Winter Hill gets their first two batters on in the 5th. Mark Davis and Rick DelGizzi both singled. Lou Coppa(3-4) singled to score Mark. Then came the swing that almost changed the game. RJ Leonard connects with a deep shot to left. We all thought it was out off the bat but Alex Lieberman goes back, back and makes the catch at the fence. Irish are up 6-4. The Irish spring ahead in the 5th when Clavin Kwock singled, John Deluca singled and with one out Malachi Metz singled to load the bases. Alex Lieberman hit a ball to short that Alex Vigil made a nice play, then when he throws to 3rd the ball is in the dirt and the runner and 3rd baseman collide on the play. Everyone is safe and Winter Hill was looking for interference called but didn't get it. (good no call). Irish are up 7-4. Ryan Smith drilled a singled to score two more, Don Trifari singled in another and one run scored on a fielders choice. The Irish are up 11-4. In the 6th Winter Hill gets their one run after Alec Vigil singled, Mark Fedele singled and Mark Armelino singed in Alec. In the top of the 7th for the 1st time in the game, Winter Hill did not get their leadoff batter on. But Jim Halpin singled, Lou Coppa singled and RJ Leonard doubled in a run. John Petrozzino hits a sac fly and Alec Vigil singled in another run. So it's 8-11 Irish and that's how it ended. Malachi Metz picked up another sub win going 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Thanks to Brian Cass and Al Puleo for umping and to Drina for scoring.
