Ghost Pirates Find the Cure for Swine Flu, 2 Scoops and Plenty of Hits. The streaky Pirates were all on board for a Pig roast and hand the hogs their first loss of the season. Here is how the upset took place. In the first inning with 2 outs and no one on, Malachi Metz singled to right, brother Max blooped in a single and Mal scored. Greg Auerbach singled and Max scored. The Pigs get one in the bottom after John Boeckel singled. Greg Auerbach made another major league play backhanding Jon Weiners ball behind the bag and throwing Boeckel out at second. Wow! Frank McNally singled and gimpy Jared Bruno singled past a diving Auerbach to score a run. After one Ghosts are up 2-1. Again with two outs the Pirates rally in the 2nd. Dave Richmond singled past third and Mark Davis homered in the right center gap. Jason Lew singled and Malachi got the hair flowing with a double to score Jay. Max Metz singled in Mal and the Pirates are up 6-1. The Pigs answer back with a few after Jon Weiner finally got one past Auerbach at first and Brad Hartung drilled a single to left. After two it's the Pirates 6 Pigs 4. The Pigs pick up a 2 more in the 3rd after Jarid Bruno led off with a gimpy double. Score tied 6-6. Ghost get one in the 4th on singles by Marc Davis and Jason Lew but the Pigs answer back to tie the game at 7-7. In the 6th the Pirates get a big two run triple from Jason Lew. Malachi sacked in Jason and the Pirates are up 10-7. The Pigs tie it again in the bottom of the 6th after Jon Weiner singled, Brad Hartung and Frank McNally single,Lance Zacker singles and it could have been worse if not for a great diving scoop at short by Max Metz. Score is tied again 10-10 what a great game. Greg Auerbach starts the top of the 7th with a single. Shanth Subbiah singled. Dave Reiss moved both runners over on a fly ball. Adam Steckelman comes through with a double over right, Dave Richman chops a single up the middle and they get a big double down the 3rd base line to score another. Jon Weiner makes a diving catch in left center but another run scores on the sac fly. Pirates are up 14-10. The first two batters make outs for the Pigs but things got interesting. Boeckel singled, Weiner triples, Hartung singled and McNally walked putting the tying run on first. But the next batter flew out and the Pirates hold on to sink the Pigs undefeated season. 14-12.
