Somerset Patriots Win the 2023 Hit-a-thon 21-17 Over the Trash Pandas. The Patriots and Pandas combine for 52 hits last night and John Petrozzino gets the win filling in for the missing Paul Martino. 12 of those came in the top of the 2nd by the Patriots. The game starts with the Pandas committing 3 errors in the first inning before RJ Leonard(3-4) tripled and Bret Hartman singled to give Somerset a 4-0 lead. Trash gets their two leadoff batters on, Alex Lieberman and Ryan Smith(4-4) but a double play prevents any runs. Then the big 2nd that started with 9 straight hits by the Pats. Vincent Wolleon(3-4) started it, followed by singles from Kevin Dejong, Sal Hakimi (who was 4-4), Tom Schur who's bat has been coming alive (I think Tommy remembered he was once a Hamfighter, George Cass still does). Then singles by Ben Alkin, Calvin Kwock, John Petrozzino and then big blast. Dave Auerbach(3-4) picks up a grand slam putting the Pats up 12-0. RJ Leonard followed with a homer of his own and Lou Coppa tried to make it 3 in a row but it fell short. With 2 outs Mike Bedell singled, Chris Stappas singled and Vince Wolleon singles again in the inning to score Mike. Pats are up 14-0 but this one is far from over. The Trash Pandas finally get their $h&t together and Deron Green leads off with a walk, Shaun Spielberger singled, Hadar singled and after an error Marshall Baines singled in the 1st Pandas run. Adam Handler's single make it 2 and Jacob Sabet hits a sac fly but the Pats still lead by double digits 14-4. The Pandas pick up one in the 3rd when Ryan Smith doubled and scored on John Speilberger's single. Both teams get 2 in the 4th. In the 5th the Pandas make it interesting putting up 7 runs on hits by Ryan Smith, Jacob Lieberman, Deron Green, Shaun Spielberger, Hadar Sieradzky(4-4), Jake Spielberger and Adam Handler. Somerset's lead is cut to just 2, 16-14. Dave Auerbach hits a solo in the 6th and the bottom of the Patriots lineup puts up 4 insurance runs in the 7th. The Patriots bottom half was the difference in this game combining for 12-20 on the night. The Pandas don't quit as Deron Green walks again, Shaun Spielberger doubled, Hadar singled, Jake Spielberger singled, Adam Handler singled and we are starting to get around to the top of the order, Pat are up by just 4, 21-17 but a big double play puts the lid on the Pandas hopes.
