Mud Hens Lay a Golden Egg, and Knock Off the 1st Place Mets 8-7. The Hens got off to a flying start picking up five 1st inning runs. Greg Esperson and Jim Morris both singled before where's the beef, Aric Bernstein singles home the games first run. With one out Keith Blicht singled to load the bases for Pat McNamara who singled in the 2nd run. The 3rd run scored on an error and Dave Jensen singled in a 4th run. Heath Waldorf sacs in run number 5 and the Hens are clucking again with a 5-0 lead. The Mets were missing league leading hitter Rob Thomas who was also missing in their 1st loss against the Rail Riders. But they managed to put up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st after Dave Plishka and Rick Beyer both single and Derek Margiotta hit a sac fly. Bob Plishka(3-4) singled and Nick Catanese(2-3) singled in the 2nd run. The Mud Hens are up 5-2 after 1. The Hens add two more in the 2nd when Jerry Fragetti singled and with two outs Jim Morris(2-3) singled. That brought up slugger Aric Bernstein(2-2) who doubled and both runs scored. Neither teams scored in the 3rd. The Mets start chipping away at that 7-2 lead with a run in the 4th when the bottom half rallied after Nick Catanese(2-3) led off with a single. Kevin Zabransky singled and Mario Leitao singled to load the bases with one out. Jason Rhodes scores a run on a fielder's choice but that's it. The Hens fail to score for the 3rd straight inning leaving the door to the Hen house wide open. The Mets ruffle their feathers with 2 more runs when David Plishka reached on error and scored on a double by Rick Beyer. Ricky scored on a sac fly by Pete DeFrank and the Hens lead is just 7-5. The Hens needed a golden egg and got it from Keith Blicht who somehow homered to left field, I assume it was an inside the park homer but maybe not. That turns out to be a huge run for the Hen who take a 3 run lead into the bottom of the 7th. The first two Mets make outs but the Mets rally after Rick Beyer and Derek Margiotta(2-3) both singled. The hot Bob Plishka singled to right scoring both Rick and Derek but Bob is held at first base. This would normally be Rob Thomas time but Rob is not in the lineup today and the next batter flew out to end the game. The Hens pick up a big win 8-7 against the hot Mets and are now in 3rd place. The Mets are just 1 game ahead of the Iron Pigs who won today with Chuck Puleo returning to the mound. There were some scoring issues with the first two games so there is no write-up on those games until the stats are confirmed.
