Close, But No Banana. Space Cowboys almost upset the second place Savanna Bananas but a great defensive play by Ryan Coletti secures the Savanna victory 8-7. Alex Simon 3-4 led the game off with a single to right but was called out trying to stretch it to a double. From the replay it looked really close. That turned out to be a big play because Mark Spoto drove the next pitch over the left field fence for a 1-0 Cowboy lead. Clay Petry(3-3) doubled for the Bananas and scored when Kurt Heim(2-3) tripled. Jason Werheimer hits a sac fly and Bananas are up 2-1. The Cowboys tie it in the 2nd when Josh Simon singled and scored when son Alex Simon singled. In the bottom Savanna gets two more. Aidan Mach singled and Ken Horan huffed and he puffed (sorry wrong story) but Ken tripled again to center and scored on a fielder's choice. Bananas 4, Cowboys 2 after 2. Savanna peels ahead in the bottom of the 3rd when Ryan Coletti, Clay Petry both single and score on Kurt Heim's single. Jason Wertheimer singled and Kurt gets thrown out at home. John Sanzone singled moving Jason to 3rd and he scored on a sac fly by Levi Henninger. Bananas are up 7-2 and time for the Cowboys to fold right, wrong. Brian Quinn singled in the 4th and Jason Davis, who arrived late doubles. Alex Simon goes opposite for a 2 run triple. Mark Spoto singled in Alex, Zach Boyer singled and Mark scored on a single by Rich Kirkpatrick. The Banana lead is cut to 1 7-6. Bananas don't score in the 4th or 5th innings and the Cowboys tie it in the 6th after Mark Spoto doubled and scored on a sac fly by Rick DelGizzi. We are tied up going into the bottom of the 6th and the Cowboys smell an upset. Levi Henninger doubled and an error allows Ken the big bad Horan to sac in the go ahead run. Bananas are back on top 8-7. With one out in top of the 7th Jason Dickert hits what looks like a single up the middle. Ken Horan gets a glove on it to knock it down and Ryan Coletti runs over from short and picks up the ball and just nips Jason at first. It was close but the replay showed he was out. So the Bananas avoid the upset and remain in 2nd place in the standings and the Cowboys leave with an upset stomach. That lost run in the first inning was a big one.
