Rail Riders Ride the Cardona Bus into the Playoffs with a 9-6 Win over Macon. Victor Cardona was big again today. Rail Riders were down 2-0 after Ralph Aiello led off with a triple (I guess), Ken O'Brien(3-3) doubled, Jon Cocchio hit a sky high fly behind short that dropped in. Macon is up 2-0 after their first 3 batters. Macon loads the bases but doesn't score any more. In the bottom the Rail Riders Kay Klele(2-3) singled off the pitchers glove, Don Trifari(2-3) doubled off the fence and with two outs Victor Cardona(2-3) warms up the bus. Victor blast a deep 3 run homer to put the Riders up 3-2 after 1. The Riders get 3 more in the 2nd with the help of 2 Macon errors. Bob Vogt hits a ball 2 feet in front of home plate, but the throw from the catcher ends up in deep right and Bob gets to 3rd. Ron Liebowitz singled in Bob and with 2 outs Michael Lawlor singled. Casey Nix drills a run scoring single and the last run scored on an error. After 2 its 6-2 Riders. Macon gets some back in the 3rd when Ralph Aiello singled and Ken O'Brien doubled again. Jon Cocchio hits a sac fly and bam, Jason Crimmins hits a 2 run homer. It's 6-5 Riders. Riders get one in the bottom of the 3rd when Jared Kuropatkin(2-3) doubled off the fence, Victor Cardona singled and Brian Cass singled in Jared. Macon turns 2 to end the inning. Riders are up 7-5. In the 5th Bacon cuts the lead to 1 again after Ken O'Brien singled and Jason Crimmins doubled. In the bottom the Riders get a break after Casey Nix gets a one out single and with 2 outs Kay Klele shows he can go to right and his liner gets by the outfield for an inside the park home run. So is a 3 run lead enough with the Macon top of the order just 5 batters away? Yes, The Riders pull together two 1,2,3 innings and Ken O'Brien, who was 3-3 and scored 3 times, Cocchio and Crimmins were all left on deck after the final out. It was another big win for the Rail Riders who have now won their 5th staight game. Just a few weeks ago they were 5-8 and in 2nd to last place. They are now 10-8 and official clinch a playoff spot, who would of though it after their 1st three games. The final spot is up for grabs between 4 teams. It will take a few weeks to see who gets in next.
