Savanna Didn't Stand a Ghost of a Chance; the Pirates take it 21-17. Savanna was missing their top two picks and again, pitcher Jon Mach was absent. Today it was Aidan Mach who was filling in for his dad on the mound. Aidan was throwing strikes but Max Metz jumped all over the rookie pitcher with 2 bombs in his first two atbats. Somehow Savanna kept it close, only losing by 4, 21-17. It was an interesting first couple of innings, Greg Auerbach singled in the 1st and Max Metz homered for a 2-0 Pirate lead. But Aidan Mach(4-5) led off for Savanna and drilled an inside the park homerun. Ken Horan singled and bith Jason Wertheimer and Kyle Francis walked (who's the rookie pitcher here?) and Rich Heim singled to put the Bananas up 3-2. Pirates fire back with 6 after Dave Richmond(4-5) singled, Dave Reiss singled and with two out Neil Ascione double to tie the game at 3-3. Greg Auerbach singled and so id Justin Shupach and Max Metz blasted another bomb for 3 more runs. Pirates are up 8-3. Again the Bananas answer right back. John Sanzone showed up and doubled off the fence, Aidan singled and Ken Horan reached on error. Jason Wertheimer(4-4) singled in one, Kyle Francis walked again, Rich Heim singled and another error later the score was tied 8-8, the Bananas are not going away easy. So the Pirates put up 6 more in the 3rd and started to pull away. Savanna kept it close and in the end the Pirates sail away with their 11th win. The Savanna loss pushes them down to 6th place, they need another win to secure a playoff spot. Fortunately it looks like they have a week off to hopefully get Jon back. On a side note the photo above is not a scene from the latest gay Netflix movie, John Deluca and Greg Auerbach had a bad collision as Greg was trying to field a wild throw. John got up slowly but hopefully he won't be too sore tomorrow. Ouch! (see the twitter replay)
