The Station Survives the Oven in Heated 8-7 Match up. Big game between 2nd seeded Puleo's Brick Oven and 3rd seeded The Station and the game did not dissappoint those who attended. The game featured some power shots and stellar plays as Puleo's jumps out an early 4 run lead in the top of the 1st. With two outs Puleo's Mark Spotto(2-3) drilled a single to left center, Joe Giordano doubled down the line and Al Puleo comes through with a hard drive to right, just over the outfielder's head for a two run double. RJ Leonard(2-3) hits a high fly that drops in between left and third for a run scoring double and Ryan Goodrich(2-3) drives RJ home with a single to left center. The Station slices into the Brick Oven lead when Jared Kruger(2-3) singled and with two outs Don Trifari Jr(3-3) homered to deep right. Puleo's is up 4-2. Neither team scored in the 2nd and Puleo's starts the third with two runners on by error. The next ball is fielded by Jr at short who tags the runner going to third, he takes a few steps to second and sees he will not get the hustling Mark Spotto then guns it to first to nip the runner, good thing Lance Zacker was paying attention. With a runner on second and two outs Al Puleo draws a walk and then comes the play of the game. RJ Leonard connects with a deep drive to left and it's going, going and Ralph Aiello leaps at the fence and pulls it down. Score remains with Puleo's up 4-2. Larry Friedman works a leadoff walk, Andy Boyer singled and Jared Kruger singled to drive home Larry. Puleo's lead is cut to 4-3. Puleo's Ryan Goodrich leads off the 4th with a single, then with one out Station manager Dave Richmond runs in to catch a liner to right center. He throws to first to try to get the runner going back who didn't tag up and the ball sails out of play. Umps decided that Ryan should go to third (we'll have to look up that ruling because there was some confusion on the call, does the run have 1st if he didn't tag up yet?). It doesn't come into play as the next batter grounds out to Jared Kruger who's just getting warmed up at 2nd. The Station takes advantage of the new ball in the bottom of the 4th when Don Jr drives a high fly that was not clear where it landed but was ruled a double. Don Sr(2-3) lined a single to right to score Jr and tie the game 4-4. Lance Zacker(2-3) singled moving Don Sr to third and takes 2nd on the throw bringing up Ralph Aiello(2-2) who's been saving up his hits from last game. Ralph hits a clutch 2 run single and the Station takes a 6-4 lead. Neither team scored in the 5th thanks to a Jared Kruger to Don Jr, well executed double play. Jared flipped it with his glove to second and Jr bare handed it over to first to just nip the runner. So it's on to the 6th and Puleo's is at the top of their order. Eric Rosenberg singled to start the inning, Mark Spotto doubled to straight away center, scoring Eric from 1st. A fly ball moves the runners up and Al Puleo sacs in the next run to tie the game. The next batter RJ Leonard jumps on the 1st pitch and drills it high over the left field fence. Puelo's is now up 7-6. With one out in the bottom of the 6th Don Jr tomahawks a ball into the courts for a double, Don Sr goes opposite for a single, moving the tying run to 3rd. Lance Zacker comes through again with a line single to left and Sr hustles over to 3rd. Ralph Aiello drives a liner just past the diving Joe Giordano at third and the Station is back up 8-7. Adam Steckelman leads off with a single for Puleo's but the Station holds on for the victory. It was a very entertaining, well played game by both teams.
