1 RUN

It all came down to a leaf. BAR A wins its second straight game in as many days with great defense (except for one inning). Ralph Fariello continues to amaze at short and Jesse Ferro seems to have found a home at first with some game saving plays. All in all, its been an impressive opening weekend for LVC Softball, where great defense has played a piviol role in most of the games. BAR A scored a run in 3 of the first 4 innings, taking a 3-0 lead into the 6th. It wasn't till the 4th inning when Triton got their first hit off pitcher Dave Richman. It was a single by Ira Robbins. In the 6th, after Ralph Fariello robbed Eric Rosenberger for the 2nd time, Andy Reiser got things started with a single. BAR A makes their first error of the game and Triton makes them pay. Ira Robbins singled for the 2nd time to load the bases and Brad Botelho (2-2) singled to right to drive in the first Triton run of the season. Mug singled in another and Sameer Sawe delivered a run single to center but got caught in a rundown for the 2nd out. Jigar Desai singled off the glove of Fariello and Triton takes a 5-3 lead. It didn't last long after Jon Weiner led off with a tailing double to right center. A costly error by Triton scores Jon and moves the tying run to 2nd. Tom Baginski lined a single to tie it and then came the leaf. With 2 outs Dave Richman lined a single to left and Rick Fardo hit a popup near third. On the way down it nicked a leaf and Rick got another swing which lead to a very close call at second. The running was called safe and the next batter walked giving BAR A a one run lead. Jess Ferro makes a nice play on a ball down the line to get the first out. An error puts the tying run at second. BAR A elects to walk RJ Leonard. The game ends on a stellar play by Ryan Goodrich who backhanded a hard ground ball up the middle off the bat of Eric Rosenberg who couldn't buy a break all day. Jon Weiner, Tom Baginski, Rick Fardo, Pete DeFrank and Brett Hartman all had two hits for BAR A. While Brad Botelho, Ira Robbins and Samer Sawe were the top hitters for Triton.
