The Rat Pack Gives La Cosa a Scare But They Didn't Get the Cheese. In a game that was a lot closer then the final score, The Rat Pack almost spoiled La Cosa bid for the 2nd place seed. There were several guys were were perfect at the plate tonight. Bob Fass was 5-5, Bruce Dostal was 4-4, Shawn Spielberger was also 4-4 and sub John Petrozzino was 4-4 batting his opposite. With the score tied 1-1 in the 2nd, La Cosa had the bases loaded and 2 outs. Jon Drillings found the right center gap as the Rat Pack only had 3 outfielders. All three runs scored and La Cosa goes up 4-1. The Rats bite back in the 3rd after Bob Fass singled, Christian Hansen doubled and Bruce Dostal put one in the courts. Jared Bruno makes it 3 doubles in a row and the Rat Pack regains the lead 5-4. La Cosa tied it in the bottom when Jason Abfier singled in Chris Mazur. The Rats get the cheese back in the 4th after Bob Fass doubled and scored on a single by Bruce Dostal. La Cosa gets a break in the bottom with two outs Shawn Spielberger gets credit for a single on a throwing error at 1st. Looked like a good throw would have nipped him. Shawn gets to second on the play and scored on a single by Mr RBI John Drillings who had 6 on the day. Then more trick plays by the Rats when Dave Schachman singled off the 1st baseman's glove, that ricochets to the second baseman, who picked up the ball and threw it backwards allowing Jon to score the go ahead run. La Cosa is up 7-6 after 4. Rats don't score in the 5th and La Cosa kept taking advantage of those outfield gaps as Ralph Avallone tripled to right center to start the bottom of the 5th. Jason Abfier sacked in Ralph and it's La Cosa up by 2, 8-6. The Rats prove that yes, a 3rd base coach is important in the 6th. Bob Fas leads off with a single and with one out Bruce Dostal singled to right center. Bob rounds second and looks for his coach who is not there. The throw comes in behind him and he is caught off the base. So instead of 1st and 2nd, 1 out, it's 2 outs, man on 1st. They lose a run since Jared Bruno(3-4) singled on the next play. In the bottom of the 6th La Cosa puts the game away after Jon Drillings hits a 2 run homer that bounced by the 2nd baseman first. I guess the outfield was tired.
