The Tortoise and the Hare. Corleone sprinted out of the gate like a jack rabbit, with 6 quick runs after two innings. After 2 innings Corleone had 8 hits. Dave Plishka had two singles, Ken O'Brien a single and double and the rest of the lineup had 4 hits before their bats fell asleep. In the mean time La Cosa Nostra was plodding along at a slow pace. They picked up one in the first when Shawn Spielberger singled and after an error Dave Schachman(2-3) sacked in Shawn. In the 2nd, after Corleone scored their 4 runs, La Cosa Nostra kept plodding and picked up one more after the hot rookie Shanth Subbiah(4-5) singled. Then with two outs Kyle Francis singled in their 2nd run. Corleone is up 6-2 and doesn't seem to concern. Neither team scored again till the 5th when LCN picked up another solo run. Again with two outs Ralph Avallone singled and scored on a deep single to right by Dave Schachman. 6-3 Corleone. Again Corleone bats are sleeping, they haven't had a hit in the last 3 innings. The Tortoise does it again in the 6th, LCN picks up just one run with two outs Steve Horowitz singled and Kyle Francis(3-4) the game changer, tripled to score one more run. Now it's 6-4 and Corleone's bats haven't woken up yet with only one hit the last 5 innings. La Cosa Nostra seems to have Corleone right where they want them. So it's the top of the 7th and LCN is down 2, the hot Shawn Spielberger led off with a single. With one out Ralph Avallone hit a hard drive down third and the third baseman makes a nice stop in the hole, he throws to 2nd but the speedy Jake Spielberger gets in safely. That was the play of the game because Mr. Clutch, Dave Schachman, doubled to tie the score at 6-6. The Tortoise has snuck up on the hare who's still sleeping. Corleone goes down 1,2,3. In the 8th LCN shocks Corleone with 4 big runs. Kyle Francis singled and with one out Shawn Spielberger legs out an infield single while Kyle runs right past the shortstop with the ball. Jake Spielberger singled to put LCN up one. Ralph Avallone drilled a singled by third to score another. Dave Schachman drilled a liner to 2nd that could have been a double play but it pops out of the glove and gets thrown away (almost out of play). It was clearly a throwing error but the book shows a hit. Gary Drillings hit into a fielder's choice but the book shows a single. I think the scorekeeper must have fallen asleep too. The video went out with Dean Sottile at bat but it look like the scorebook shows 4 outs in the inning. It didn't matter because the hare was still sleeping in the bottom of the 8th. La Cosa Nostra moves up to 5-1, just one game behind the Irishman. We posted the stats for the game as best as we can tell. If you feel there is any errors please contact Don.
