The Medigans Get Whacked by La Cosa Nostra (The Family) 17-3. Big turnouts tonight for both teams but it quickly turned into a family affair. La Cosa Nostra Boss, Dean Sottile spread out his lineup and it produced a big score. Shawn Spielberger drew a leadoff walk to start the 1st and Jason Abfier followed with a double to right. Ralph Avallone had an infield single to load the bases for Dave Schachman who singled in Shawn, but Jason was gunned down at home. Dean Sottile retaliated with an RBI single and Jon Drillings singled to score another. The next run scored on a FC before rookie Kyle Frances(2-3) singled in a run with his with first LVC atbat. Ron Liebowitz(2-3) put his new eyes to the test with another run scoring single and just like that The Family is up 6-0. Medigans put up another goose egg in the 2nd as La Cosa took a 2 inning scoring siesta. The Medigans get on the scoreboard in the 3rd when Eric Stivers singled, Jason Benson singled and Jesse Ferro reached on error. They picked up another run in the 4th when Greg Esperson singled, Tony Garrett singled and Medigan's Boss Nick Adams singled in Greg. Trailing 6-2 could the Medigans pull off the comeback? Fuggedaboutit! The entire La Cosa family came to the table with the new ball in the bottom of the 4th and they were hungry. Bob Vogt led off with a single and Kyle Francis picked up his 2nd hit. Ron Liebowitz singled to load the bases. Gary Drillings (batting 11th?) delivers a score with a single, and rookie Shanth Subbiah picks up his first hit and RBI. Shawn Spielberger(2-3) doubled and Jason Abfier singled off the 3rd baseman's glove. Then La Cosa brings out the guns of Avallone. Ralph Avallone(3-4) scorched a rocket line drive to left, Dave Schachman walked and rookie Chris Mazur picked up his second hit and cashed in with his first 2 RBI's. When the Family left the table, La Cosa Nostra was up 13-2. Medigans scored only one more run when Greg Esperson doubled in the 6th while La Cosa added four more before this one was done. The final score was 17-3. Great day for the LCN rookies who combined for 5 hits and 5 RBI's in their first LVC game. The moral of this game was - don't mess with "the Family"!
