Pigs and Rail Riders Make LVC History in Crazy Finish that Leaves the Pigs Squealing. In a wild back and forth game the Rail Riders roast the Pigs on a first ever walk-off 2 RBI walk. This was an entertaining game however our hearts are with Chuck Puleo as he reinjured his knee in the 2nd inning with the Pigs up 2-1. The Pigs jumped up 2-0 in the 1st after both Chuck Puleo and Jon Weiner walked. Brad Hartung(3-4) singled and Frank McNally picked up his league leading 14th RBI with a single. The next batter hits to the pitcher who turns a double play and the Pigs have to settle for just 2 runs. Rail Riders Jay Glickson singled and scored on a single by Victor Cardona(3-4). Neither team scored in the 2nd. In the top of the third Chuck Puleo singled to right with one out. Jon Weiner walks on a pitch that appeared to hit the matt which led to some friendly discussions. The next pitch Brad Hartung drills a hard grounder up the middle and Rails turns another double play, but Chuck who was on second ran back to the bag. Maybe he wasn't sure if the pitcher caught the ball on a fly but when he turned to head back to third he injured his bad knee and had to leave the game. The Pigs first backup pitcher couldn't find the plate and walked the first three guys on 12 pitches (including Rails walker Don Trifari). Frank McNally came in for relief and did a great job holding Rail Riders to just two runs that inning. The Rail Riders are up 3-2. In the 4th Frank McNally led off with a single and with two outs John Boeckel surprised everyone with a deep blast to right center for a triple. Lance Zacker drilled a single by the 2nd baseman and the Pigs are back up 4-3. In the bottom Mark Fedele singled, Mike Lawlor singled and Dean Sottile found a hole for an RBI. Bob Vogt hit a sac fly and Rail Riders are back up 5-4. The Pigs load the bases in the 5th after a walk and double by Brad Hartung. Frank McNally is walked with 2 outs and first base open. The next batter flew out to deep left center. Victor Cardona led off with a triple and scored on a single by Brian Cass. Rail Riders are up 6-4. Brian Godau leads off with walk and scored on a fielder's choice but the Rail Riders answer back with two more in the 6th after Mark Fedele singled, Dean Sottile singled and Bob Vogt blasted a big 2 RBI triple. It's the top of the 7th and the Rail Riders have their biggest lead of the night 8-5. But the Pigs have their top of the order coming up and Jon Weiner scorched a liner up the middle, that somehow Don Trifar caught. The next ball by Brad Hartung is misplayed and drops in for a single. The hot Frank McNally singled and Jared Bruno blooped a single to left center to score a run. Brian Godau hit one to hot to handle at short and John Boeckel put the Pigs within 6 with a sprayed single to left. Lance Zacker flew to left and Victor Cardona raced in for a nice catch but the Pigs sneak home the tying run before Kay Klele ended the threat with a nice play at third. It's 8-8 and Rails can win with one run. Victor Cardona leads off with a single, Brian Cass singled and Kay Klele singled to center and John Weiner charged in a threw Victor out at home. The next batter hits into a double play and the Rail Riders blow a big opportunity and we go to extras. Greg Kohn walked to start the 8th and Mike Heisheimer singled to bring up the top of the order. The next batter lined out to short and Brad Hartung singled to score a run, but the Rail Riders throw out the runner going to third for the 2nd out. Frank McNally is walked again and Jared Bruno slaps a single to right for a 2nd run. Will it be enough? With one out Mike Lawlor hit the strangest single I ever saw. It's a blooper to first and both Jared Bruno and pitcher Frank McNally are injured and not running well. The ball drops in near the line and just stuck in the mud. Then the Pigs make 2 costly errors to load the bases with one out. Bob Vogt works a walk to put the Rail Rider within one, and Don Trifari walks on 4 straight pitches and manager Dean Sottile reminds the umps that Don is the walker and he walked on 4 pitches in the 3rd inning. So both the tying and winning runs score and the Rail Riders win their 3rd in a row and even their record to 3-3. The Iron Pigs out hit the Rail Riders 17-15 and had 8 walks but came up short for only the 2nd time this season. There might have been another LVC first in this game as both teams assigned their walker to two guys over 60 years old.
