Macon Hangs on the Arm of Armelino to Sink the Pirates 7-6. The Ghost Pirates were hoping for a big upset tonight with the return of Jason Lew, but Macon had other plans. You can't say enough about the job Mark Armelino is doing on the mound for Macon Bacon. He wasn't drafted as a pitcher but now he just picked up his 5th win and he is leading the league in Win%. The Ghost Pirates were in control till the dreaded 5th when they saw their 2 run lead walk away after Jason Crimmins walked in the go ahead run but let's flash back to the 1st inning when the Pirates jumped ahead. Shanth Subbiah singled and Malachi Metz walked before Max hit only the 2nd homer off Mark Armelino for a 3-0 lead. Bacon gets two back when Ralph Aiello walked and scored after the almost automatic Ken O'Brien(2-2)singled and Jon Cocchio singled. After a double play Steve Deblasio hit a big double to score another. After 1 its 3-2 Pirates. Pirates get a single by Neil Ascione an with 2 outs Jason Lew singled. Malachi Metz(3-3) doubled to right to score both runner and with 1st open they walked Max Metz and it worked. Pirates are up 5-2. Bacon again gets 2 more after Mike Fardo singled and Danny Fariello tripled in one. Matt "I'm Back!" Eisenberger(2-2) singled and after two the Pirates are up 5-4. The Pirates get one in the 4th when Jason Lew singled and scored on another double by Malachi Metz. After 3 Ghosts are up 6-4. In the bottom of the 5th co manager Danny Fariello gets his 2nd big hit, a lead off single. Matt Eisenberger picks up his 2nd hit and Frank Chioccariello drilled single down the line and Danny scored to cut the lead to 1. The ball gets by the left fielder and both runners advance so Bacon has 2nd and 3rd with no outs. That's a big play because the next batter Jim Gesualdo hits a sac fly to left and another run scored to tie the game. Had that runner been on 2nd he wouldn't have advanced and the double play would still be possible with the bottom of the order coming up. Mike Levine hit are hard one hopper down third that somehow gets through for a single. That could have been an easy step on third to first double play and ended the inning with a 1 run lead but now Macon has 1st and 2nd with only one out, game tie, and the top of the order coming up. Mike ran so hard he injured his shoulder running to first. It was a huge play for Macon. Ghosts get an infield fly which brings up Jon Cocchio since Ken O'Brien left. Jon is walked to load the bases for Jason Crimmins. Jason takes two strikes and works a full count, then walks in the go ahead run. The next batter lines out to short but Macon is now up for the first time 7-6. The Pirates get a chance in the 6th after Shanth and Malachi both single. Macon huddles together to see what to do with Max who already has an intentional walk and another would score a run. They pitch to him but Max Metz bid for a homer is caught right at the fence and Macon hold on to win their 3rd straight and move up to 4th place in the standings with a 6-4 record. The loss sinks the Pirates to 4-6 and 10 place but there are still a lot of games left and the 10th place team is only 3 games back from the #1 Mets.
