Mets Whip Up Some Banana Pudding in 18-6 Route. The Mets dominated this one right out of the gate, finding the gaps in the Banana outfield who were playing with only 9 players. It was the young gunz who did the most damage; Dave Plishka(4-5) and Derek Margiotta(4-4) both had 4 hits and 3-4 RBIs and Dave even had an inside the park home run. Rick Beyer(3-4) and Pete DeFrank(3-3) both added 3 hits each, Rickey had a few gappers while Pete was drilling balls down the 3rd baseline all night. Matt Siekierka was 3-4 as well. The Bananas only managed 13 hits with Levi Henninger(3-4) smoking 3 balls by the 3rd baseman while John Sanzone was back in the lineup and went 2-3 on the night. The Bananas got half of their runs in the 4th inning after a new Valhalla rule was inforced. Bob Plishka was playing on the grass behind second (see photo) and doubled up John Sanzone on a line drive that would have been a single. New rule says infielder's can't play on the grass. After the out, both teams cleared the field but umpires Mike Levine and Mark Spoto reverse the out and give John a new atbat. John hit a sac fly and another run scored on a Ken Horan single. With the win the Mets move up to 2nd place and become the first team with 10 wins. I haven't done the math but my guess is they clinched a playoff spot. Waiting for Mike Levine to chime in.
